ABOUT US
Our story started in a village called Liangxinzhai (Conscience Village) in Yuan Yang County, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The villagers here have grown and harvested tea for generations. More than a century ago, the ancestors of the Hani people crossed the Red River and discovered the land of Yuan Yang, a place with lush vegetation and fertile soil. They chose to settle down and build a place where they could call home - the now renowned Yuan Yang Rice Terraces. The magnificent and picturesque 190,000 mu of terraced fields is the result of more than a century of hard work, perseverance and wisdom of the Hani folks.
When the harvesting season arrives, the Hani people will wear beautiful national costumes to welcome the new harvest year in grandeur as a sign of respect for nature.
The tea fields which are located in Liangxinzhai village are 1,800 meters above sea level, with lush forests, abundant rainfall and natural ecosystem. The tea trees that grow on high altitude mountains with billowy clouds are unrivalled; this is because these clouds veil the fiery rays of the sun, while still wrapping the tea leaves in a warm embrace. Every leaf is nature’s gift and every sip of tea is reminiscent of the toil and sweat of thousands of Hani folks.
As evident in the name, “Liangxin” , which means “conscience”, the tea farmers here strive to retain the purity of "Conscience Village". Not only are the Yunnan big-leaf tea trees grown on lands free of pollution and pesticides, their tea leaves are full hand-picked for processing. As such, these tea leaves are highly sought after.
In 2016, the founder of TSCTEA, Jolin Li, a native of Honghe Prefecture who was doing business abroad then, chanced upon Liangxinzhai. As her understanding of the tea grew, so did her love and admiration for the people and the tea culture. Thus, she made up her mind to lead the villagers out of poverty and let the world have a chance to savour the tea in Yuanyang.
When life gets too hectic, sip on a cup of tea. Take this time to slow down and enjoy the moment. We hope that hearing the beautiful story of Terraced fields allow you to discover the beauty within yourself as well.
